Friends,
Just a reminder, Sarah is selling her custom baby birth prints over on etsy. If you have a little one in your life, she would love to create one for you. 100% of the profits go toward funding the adoption. 🙂 Link is here: Sarah’s etsy shop Blessings!

Well, we’re back. And we have news.

I have written this post 200 times in my head. Lots of lyrical, wizened words and lengthy tales of tears and laughter. But I prefer abrupt and succinct.

We are adopting. And we are full of joy.

The desire to adopt has been brewing in my (Sarah) heart since I was 14, and Isaac wholeheartedly jumped on board in September 2012. And then we got pregnant. 🙂 The time is finally right and we feel Christ leaning on our hearts to just go full steam ahead. We don’t have all of the dollars; we don’t know all of the details. But it’s our next big adventure, and we know we want you with us.

But we also need your help. Obviously.

1) Please pray. Ask most adoptive parents and kids, and you learn that the road is long and full of obstacles. If you are a believer, please pray for our patience, wisdom, and discernment. Also, that we remain joyful and not get discouraged.

2) You can give. I hate this part. You knew it was coming. Our (insane) goal is a little north of $20,000. It is so big, but so is our God. Every penny brings us one step closer a little bit sooner.

More details to come soon. God is so good.

An update on our future!

Well, the decision has been officially made: we are NOT moving to Switzerland. But it is okay! We firmly believe we are flowing God’s path. We will be moving home to Fort Wayne as soon as we can manage to find jobs!

Once again, we were sad at first — but we are so very excited for this next step. We are learning to live fully reliant on Christ, and we are incredibly ready to see where life takes us in this new season. Thank you so much for your prayers and thoughts; this year would have been a failure if our support system had not been so strong. You are our support system, and we love you!

Shameless Self-promotion

Okay, time for me to shamelessly self-promote my hobby (which I am hoping to turn into a bit of a side business). I love design. Ever since my first private art lesson in fourth grade — I’ve been hooked on color and creating. So, I have an etsy shop with some of my stuff, and I would LOVE feedback from you on what you like and what I could add or do better! If you or anyone you know is interested, I would be happy to create something for you.

PS: Happy 2012. God is faithful. 🙂

Smiles all ’round

Here at JFHP, we have thousands of photos available. Trips, teams, equipment, culture…it’s incredible. And every once in a while, while I am writing posts for the JFHP blog, I get to shuffle through hundreds of them at a time. Some are happy, some are heartbreaking, all are gorgeous. I just wanted to share a few of them with you. Enjoy! Read the rest of this entry »

Back porches and puppies

I think I’m getting old. Isaac tells me I am frequently, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Case in point:

Frivolity is fun!

Each week here at JFHP, we have a girls lunch. One “girl” cooks, and the rest of us eat. It’s an awesome process. Last week, we started talking about things we are thankful for, and someone said, “Name one thing you are thankful for that is completely and totally frivolous.”

Because I like overkill, here is a photo essay of Read the rest of this entry »

To Switzerland we go

After a lot of conversations, prayers, and emails we have decided to move to Switzerland (it’s actually Germany but don’t tell Sarah). We are very excited for this new opportunity, but the time we have spent here in Kansas City working for JESUS Film Harvest Partners has left a huge impact on our lives. We will continue to work with JFHP in any way that we can and will weave it into our new work.

We will be working for the Eurasia Communication Center (ECC) which is based in Switzerland and there we will help develop their newsletters, stories, and any other type of communication you can imagine. We are quite excited for this new opportunity and look forward to dipping our toes into a new culture. If everything goes according to plan and we get our finances in order our hope is to make the move in late March (fingers crossed).

We have no idea what God has in store for us in Europe, but we have both come to the conclusion that God has called us to serve one year at a time. We don’t know if it is because of our fear of commitment to a place or lack of a longterm calling, but we are so grateful that God is showing us the way even if it is only 1 stop at a time. Sometime after the new year we will give you all the details, but for now we would really appreciate your thoughts and prayers. We are excited.

Ask and you shall receive…a ton.

Oh good, we're not busy.

A couple of months ago, Isaac and I (and several others) began praying for opportunities to speak on behalf of JFHP. These opportunities are critical for us, because we are full-time volunteers and all of our funding comes from donations. Speaking at churches is one way we can both increase awareness of JFHP and earn some funds for living.

We were nervous, at first. We weren’t sure what the response would be to the flood of emails we sent out across the country.

Well. Read the rest of this entry »
